What’s the Difference Between the Old Freddy and the New Freddy?
In 2010, the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise saw an extra heartbeat in the form of a remake of the very first movie. The idea for the slasher remake was to create a scarier version of the 1984 Wes Craven original. To do so, the writers took away the cheeky dialogue that fans know and love from the original Freddy Krueger character (played by Robert Englund), and made him much darker. Part of this also included changing his background story a bit, again making his crimes and his character (played in the remake by Jackie Earle Haley) much more despicable. The horror villain also got a slight image revision for the remake. The creators wanted Freddy to look more like a real burn victim this time around; the look that Wes Craven originally wanted couldn’t really be achieved in the 1984 original, but in 2010, special effects artists were able to give Freddy a look that more realistically resembled what a fresh burn victim might look like. And fortunately, whether you are a fan of the new or the old Freddy, you can choose the perfect Freddy Krueger mask to match with your plans (whatever they may be) for a very nightmarish Halloween.
